Daedong and Rural Development Administration launch new council to distribute AI-powered smart agricultural solutions

- Council has four subcommittees focusing on data (agricultural AI), precision agriculture, green bio, and distribution to work on 18 collaborative tasks
- Rural Development Administration to share sharing and develop technology together with Daedong to offer agricultural LLM services using generative AI technology
- Council will conduct demonstrations on farms to advance agricultural solutions, develop and commercialize crops with significant potential for industrial applications

Daedong and the Rural Development Administration are joining forces to promote the development and distribution of smart agricultural solutions powered by generative AI technology.

Daedong (Co-CEO: Kim Jun-Sik and Won Yu-Hyun), Daedong Group's parent company and a leader in future agtech, and the Rural Development Administration (RDA; Administrator: Cho Chaeho) announced the launch of a new “Smart Agriculture Cooperation Council” at Daedong’s headquarters (Nongong-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu) on May 30. The Council’s mission is to expedite the distribution of smart agricultural solutions that take advantage of cutting-edge technologies, including generative AI technology.

Daedong established Daedong AI Lab, an AI robot S/W company, this month to develop AI systems for robots that might help internalize AI technology apply and transform all Daedong Group products into effectively smart robots, and to spearhead the “AI transformation of Korean agriculture” by distributing AI technology across agricultural industries such as open field precision farming, smart farming, food tech, and green bio.

Daedong (Co-CEO: Kim Jun-Sik and Won Yu-Hyun) and the Rural Development Administration (Administrator: Cho Chaeho) launched a new “Smart Agriculture Cooperation Council” at Daedong’s headquarters (Nongong-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu) on May 30. The Council’s mission is to expedite the distribution of smart agricultural solutions that take advantage of cutting-edge technologies, including generative AI technology. Members of the four subcommittees at the Council are taking a commemorative photo after the launching event.

Inspired by the common goal of bringing a “digital revolution of domestic agriculture,” the RDA will share public agricultural data and support the development of smart agricultural technology via the newly organized Council. Moreover, the RDA will work with Daedong to supply smart agricultural technology by supporting the commercialization and distribution of technologies as well as resources that could facilitate the development of generative AI services in the agricultural sector. The two organizations will form four subcommittees under the Council - each subcommittee will focus on data (agricultural AI), precision agriculture, green bio, and distribution - tasked with executing 18 collaborative tasks.

Specifically, the Data Subcommittee (agricultural AI) will promote the development of Korea's only generative AI specializing in agriculture by learning data from agriculture-related books available at the RDA with the Agricultural GPT service on the Daedong Connect app. The Subcommittee will also discuss and develop an “AI pest diagnosis” service using the RDA’s pest diagnosis and prescription database.

The Precision Agriculture Subcommittee is expected to facilitate the advancement of agricultural solutions. In order to develop precision agriculture solution technology and distribute it to farmers, the Subcommittee will explore means to standardize agricultural machinery and smart agricultural technology, how to utilize drones and satellites, and ways to develop and provide agricultural AI solution technology and services. The solutions developed at the Subcommittee will be co-opted by Daedong to fine-tune solutions applied to 158 lots (595,000㎡) across four regions. These solutions are being tested with the Korea Central Association of Fields Co-op (Chairperson: Jang Soo-Yong, hereinafter referred to as “KCAF Co-op”), the largest agricultural organization in Korea, and Daedong is hoping to derive local initiatives that support farming households. Previously, Daedong signed a business agreement with KCAF in January of this year to “cooperate on distributing and supplying precision agricultural services and smart agricultural machinery.”

The Green Bio Subcommittee is expected to develop and commercialize crops with industrial potential, develop AI-driven environmental control solutions for smart farms and environmental and growth forecasting services, and execute projects aimed at distributing new technology and services to farms. Finally, the Distribution Subcommittee will work on demonstrating autonomous driving tractors and follower-type pest control and transportation AI robots, and train farmers how to use them. Pilots and demonstrations will get underway in connection with the Gimje-Reclaimed Land Management Model. Practical training will be offered in liaison with the Gwangju Metropolitan City Test Bed Training Center, and include programs on Daedong's autonomous tractors, AI agricultural robots, and practical demonstrations.
