“Commercializing future agricultural solutions and creating an advanced AI agricultural industry convergence zone in Jeollanam-do”

Daedong and Jeollanam-do sign business agreement for the “AI Transformation” of local agriculture

- Daedong wants to distribute and commercialize future agricultural solutions such as agricultural robots, precision agriculture, green bio, and agricultural GPT across Jeollanam-do
- Next year, company will supply agricultural robots to the Naju unmanned production complex and launch a precision agriculture beta service for farmers in Jeollanam-do
- Developing specialized agricultural solutions for Jeollanam-do will help turn Jeollanam-do into an advanced AI agricultural industry convergence zone

Daedong is joining forces with Jeollanam-do to commercialize future agricultural solutions and accelerate the “AI transformation” of agriculture across the region.

Daedong (Co-CEOs Kim Jun-Sik and Won Yu-Hyun), a leader and pioneer in future ag-tech, announced on August 6 that it signed a business agreement on “developing advanced agricultural industries and future technology” with Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Yung-rok). The goal is to commercialize AI-driven future agricultural solutions such as (1) AI agricultural robots; (2) precision agriculture; (3) green bio smart farms; and (4) agricultural GPT, which Daedong is focusing on as part of its future business.

On August 6, Daedong (Co-CEOs Kim Jun-Sik and Won Yu-Hyun) and the Jeollanam-do Municipal Government (Governor Kim Yung-rok) signed a business agreement on “developing advanced agricultural industries and future technology” for the AI transformation of local agriculture, and to also promote the commercialization of Daedong’s AI-based future agriculture solution across Jeollanam-do (Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do). In order to take the crucial leap forward as a leader in future ag-tech for the next 100 years, Daedong has been leveraging more than two decades of experience in the field to strategically and aggressively invest in future businesses such as smart agricultural machinery and farms, smart mobility, robots, and small construction equipment. In doing so, it has launched future agricultural solutions such as level-3 autonomous driving agricultural machinery (tractors, combines, and rice transplanters), agricultural ChatGPT service “AI Daedongi,” and precision farming that maximizes harvest with minimum resources for the first time in the industry. These solutions are being tested in collaboration with major agricultural organizations such as the Korea Central Association of Fields Co-op, and Daedong is fine-tuning them for future commercialization.

The agreement hopes to accelerate the transition to an “AI-driven advanced agricultural industry” by distributing the future agricultural solutions that have been developed and tested over the past four years to farmers in the Jeollanam-do region, and to create a commercialization model that fits the local situation. Both partners also want to build an “Advanced AI Agricultural Industry Convergence Zone,” which Jeollanam-do has ambitiously announced.

First, in order to (1) promote the use of AI agricultural robots in Jeollanam-do, Daedong will supply AI autonomous agricultural machinery as well as transportation and pest control robots to the Jeollanam-do Naju Advanced Unmanned Production Demonstration Complex starting in 2025, and collect agricultural data for analysis. The goal is to commercialize AI agricultural robots capable of level-4 autonomous operations from 2026. As part of the agreement, Jeollanam-do will open a rental office and offer training to farmers on how to use and maintain equipment, which could go a long way in helping to create a thriving distribution system for AI agricultural robots in the private sector going forward.

Moreover, (2) in order to expand precision agriculture services, Daedong plans on launching a precision agriculture beta service in collaboration with Jeollanam-do for farmers in the local region sometime in 2025. To this end, Daedong and Jeollanam-do will offer AI-driven autonomous agricultural machinery, as well as precision agriculture solutions for land analysis, pest control/fertilization, growth and irrigation, and also agricultural machinery repair and parts ordering services, etc. for the first time in Korea in the form of “connected services.”

Meanwhile, the (3) Green Bio Smart Farm will develop standard production technologies for high value-added crops in cooperation with the Jeonnam Bioindustry Foundation and the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Service, distribute them to farmers, and bolster the competitiveness of Jeollanam-do's green bio agricultural industry by working with companies that demand crops for food, bio, and pharmaceuticals. In addition, Daedong will promote the application of smart farming solutions in greenhouses and distribute agricultural robots for greenhouses to build an optimal growing environment using AI, thereby reducing labor and increasing work efficiency.

The company also wants to utilize data derived from demonstration projects to (4) deliver an AI agriculture GPT that is tailored to the Jeollanam-do region via the Daedong Connect app. In connection with the Korea Agricultural Industry Big Data Center, which is expected to open inside the Advanced AI Agricultural Industry Convergence Zone, Daedong is hoping to upgrade its AI services so that local farmers can experience farming guidelines and diagnosis/prescription services powered by AI and GPT.

Meanwhile, Daedong established the Daedong AI Lab, a company specializing in AI robot S/W, in May and is currently developing an AI system for robotizing all Daedong Group products embedded with AI technology. By doing so, the company plans to apply AI technology to agricultural industries such as open-field precision farming, facility smart farming and food tech, and green bio.
