“Try an agricultural robot that is easier to use, quieter, and produces less smoke”

Daedong develops autonomous transport robots and asks customers to join a test group

- Daedong is looking to demonstrate and ask orchards to evaluate its products... Ten orchards will be chosen to test and experience the product for two months
- Transportation robots, autonomous driving, and worker-following technology minimize the need for manipulation while maximizing harvesting efficiency
- Loads up to 300kg and works for more than four hours at a time... Also very safe thanks to its electric platform and no mounting is required

Daedong says it plans to be the first agricultural machinery company in Korea to launch an agricultural robot and collect customer feedback through a test group program.

Daedong (Co-CEOs Kim Jun-Sik and Won Yu-Hyun), a leader and pioneer in future agriculture, announced on September 24 that the company has now completed developing an autonomous transportation robot, and will organize a test group of orchard growers to test and evaluate the product’s performance before launching it on the market.

The company developed two robots - (1) an autonomous transportation robot and (2) a wired following transportation robot, focused on minimizing user input - to solve the inconvenience of workers having to continuously operate agricultural machinery to transport fruits while harvesting them.

Thus, (1) the autonomous transportation robot follows workers while they harvest fruit in a mapped orchard, while maintaining a certain distance, and moves autonomously, stopping automatically when it recognizes an obstacle. Once it is done harvesting, the autonomous transportation robot moves autonomously to a designated warehouse or truck. Then, when all the fruit boxes loaded with cargo have been moved, the robot will move on its own to the designated location and return to work. This lightens the workload on farmers, reduces the number of farmers required for harvesting, and therefore maximizes work efficiency. The loading bay can hold up to 300kg, and the robot can help transport items such as fruit boxes much more easily with its “lift and dump” function.

Since it is electric, the robot does not produce any exhaust gas or noise, which reduces fatigue, and because the robot does not require an operator to ride or mount it to use, the risk of workers tipping over in sloping orchards is lower. Depending on the cargo load, the robot can work for anywhere between four to eight hours on a single charge. One of its key features is that it has a remote control function, allowing users to manage the robot's tasks, view its work history, and access remote diagnostics services using mobile devices.

Daedong has finished developing an autonomous transportation robot and will organize a two-month user testing program with orchard growers from October to November to test the product and evaluate its performance prior to launching it on the market in earnest. The photo shows a transportation robot harvesting pears in a pear orchard.

Daedong will take applications for the test group on its official website. Upon evaluation, the company plans on selecting ten orchards and giving them an opportunity to use the (1) autonomous transportation robot or (2) a wired following transportation robot for approximately two months starting October 7. All participants will also qualify for a special discount on the transportation robot. Meanwhile, Daedong says its viral marketing campaign to recruit orchard growers for the test group via social media will go on until October 2.

Daedong wants to officially launch its autonomous transportation robot and pest control robot in the first quarter of next year. These two robots will be available at the “2024 Korea International Exhibition of Machinery, Equipment, Science and Technology for Agriculture,” the largest agricultural machinery exhibition in Korea, which gets underway in Daegu from October 30 to November 2.
