Daedong and CJ Freshway sign MOU to work together on promoting “smart farming”

- Daedong and CJ Freshway sign first business agreement to expand smart farming to garlic farmers in Boeun
- Both partners want to offer optimized growth solutions by installing weather stations and auto irrigation/fertilization equipment across garlic farms (total 71,290m2)
- Expected benefits include the distribution of Daedong smart farming solutions, production of higher-quality crops by farmers, and stable supply to CJ Freshway

Daedong (Co-CEOs Kim Jun-Sik and Won Yu-Hyun), a leader and pioneer in future ag-tech, announced on July 16 that it signed a business agreement with CJ Freshway (CEO Lee Geon-il) at the Daedong's Seoul office on the previous day to promote the application of smart agriculture solutions and expand the distribution of agricultural products grown on smart farms.

With this new agreement in place, Daedong will offer smart farming solutions that can help stably produce high-quality agricultural products for farms affiliated with CJ Freshway. Farmers can use Daedong’s solutions to boost productivity and income, and CJ Freshway can use Daedong to secure a more stable supply of high-quality agricultural products for its businesses going forward. In particular, Daedong wants to create a successful win-win model between farm and business, which it can ultimately reference when working with other farms and corporations. Also, farms (production), CJ Freshway (consumer), and Daedong (service vendor) will share data on crop cultivation and distribution with each other to explore the possibility of a future agricultural platform that creates greater added value.

Both partners will first select eight garlic farms in Boeun-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do (total area of approximately 71,290㎡), and provide them with an open-field garlic smart farming solution. Daedong will sign a smart farming system distribution contract with the farms and install a real-time weather station that checks temperature, humidity, and solar radiation, as well as automatic irrigation/fertilization equipment that can be remotely controlled, on each farm within the year, and provide optimized irrigation and fertilization guides by monitoring of the environment for garlic farming. Daedong plans to collect and analyze the data acquired from these garlic farms using smart farming solutions to establish a garlic farmer’s manual by region and specific variety of the crop.

Starting with garlic, Daedong and CJ Freshway will continue their partnership to expand the distribution of smart farming to other farms across the nation. Daedong believes that farmers will be able to produce higher quality agricultural products while reducing labor and resource inputs under a more intelligent and automated farming environment. The company is hoping that the farming manuals it prepares with CJ Freshway can contribute to the growth of agriculture in Korea. CJ Freshway also expects to be able to secure more quality agricultural products through its affiliated farms.

Daedong Group's future ag-tech platform company Daedong (Co-CEO: Kim Jun-sik and Won Yu-hyun) and CJ Freshway (CEO Lee Geon-il) signed a business agreement to promote smart agriculture and expand the distribution of agricultural products grown on smart farms. Meanwhile, Daedong plans to expand the scope of its business agreement with CJ Freshway to smart greenhouse farming solutions, precision rice farming, group meal services, and other synergy-inducing projects, agricultural and food innovation cluster projects, and offshore Official Development Assistance (ODA) initiatives through continued collaboration with the company in addition to its latest smart farming solution for garlic.
